RECOMMENDED:Most of the new laptops released in the past few years automatically start when you open the lid. For instance, my ThinkPad T450s automatically starts upon lifting the lid.The feature is helpful as you don’t need to press the power button to start the laptop. Because of this feature, you will be able to resume your work almost instantly especially if you use the hibernate feature. There is no option in Windows 10 or earlier versions to turn on this feature. That is, if your laptop doesn’t support it, you cannot enable it. However, there seems to be a way to turn off the feature. There is no benefit in preventing the laptop from automatically starting upon opening the screen lid, but if you for some reason, you want to prevent the laptop from starting upon opening the lid, you can do so under Windows 10 power settings.
Prevent laptop from turning on when you open the lidStep 1: Right-click on the battery icon in the system tray of the taskbar and then click Power Options to open Power Options window.Step 2: In the left-pane, click Choose what closing the lid does link. Clicking the link will open System Settings window.Step 3: In the Power and sleep buttons and lid settings section, you will see When I close the lid option. Select Nothing from the drop-down box next to it. Select Nothing for both “ On battery” and “ Plugged In” fields.Click Save changes button.Turn off your laptop. Close the lid and then open the lid again. The laptop should not automatically start. The only catch is that you cannot use the lid to shut down, hibernate or sleep the laptop when you want to prevent the laptop from automatically turning on upon opening the lid. Some laptops do offer an option in the BIOS to turn on or off auto start feature. You might also like to read our guide. There could be a useful reason not to turn it on.Imagine you have put your PC in “deep sleep”, but you know you have not enough battery, but would like to open the laptop anyway, without turning it onThen it becomes really a annoying, as opening it will turn it out of “deep sleep” mode, andrisk to force you to reboot from zero afterwards, because the laptop would not have enoughpower to be able to shutdown properly, losing your session.
I would like to be able toturn it in deep sleep when closing my lid, but not turning it on when opening itApparently, this would not be an option, then sad!.Aruna says.

Hp Laptop Close Lid Options For Sale
Sometimes you want to keep your Windows 10 laptop running while it is closed. For instance, when you connect a laptop to an external monitor and don’t want to use the notebook’s own display. Or, if don’t want to interrupt an ongoing file download, but for some reason you need to close the lid. Or if you want to continue an online audio streaming with the laptop closed. Here’s how to keep your Windows 10 laptop on with the lid closed. It’s simple:Click on the magnifier (Search Windows) icon in the lower left corner of the screen.
The Windows search box will show up. Type “closing” in it. A “Change what closing the lid does” option will show up in the search results. Clicking on the result will take you to a relevant section of Windows Control Panel (Control PanelHardware and SoundPower OptionsSystem Settings). There you just need to change settings of the “When I close the lid” option.
It’s usually set to “Sleep”, since that’s the default choice. If you select “ Do nothing” from the list, your laptop will be prevented from going to “Sleep” or other inactive modes. It will continue to work normally when you close the notebook. You can have separate “When I close the lid” settings for the laptop running on battery and while plugged in a power outlet. After changing the settings, click on the “Save changes” button. As a side note, the same option can be used to put a Windows laptop in hibernation mode or to shut it down completely when you close the lid.Choosing “Do nothing” will prevent your computer from going into sleep, hibernation, and from shutting down. Its built-in display will be turned of, of course. In case when you have an external monitor connected to the laptop, Windows 10 display settings will change automatically to enable use of the external screen when the notebook is closed.
Daniel,Do you know a way to keep the screen from turning off when the lid of a Win 10 2019 laptop is closed. The issue is I’m using Teamviewer and when the screen goes dark Teamviewer is no longer sent any video data from the laptop and the remote screen freezes.I have gone into Lid controls and set everything to Do Nothing and the video screen still turns off at about a 5º angle from closed and then my remote Teamviewer screen freezes. I open the laptop lid and everything on my remote screen returns to normal. This used to to work ok with Win7 on the same laptop. Do you know if the power plan changes in Control PanelSystem and SecurityPower Options when you run games?
It’s possible that there are separate power plans on your system, such as Balanced and Performance, with separate settings for choosing what closing the lid does. So you have to choose “Do nothing” for the plan you use while gaming, probably Performance, as opposed to the basic Balanced. The how to guide I wrote above was written for a single power plan. I should probably add a note about changing the settings for each separate plan if there are more than one plan.

I don’t know details about your remote access software and laptop setup, but to access the laptop remotely you generally need:– remote access software up and running on the laptop you want to access,– the laptop and Windows 10 up and running (and of course connected to Internet).Make sure the laptop is always on by preventing the laptop to go to “sleep” mode. In the Windows Search box, type “power”. Then select “Power & sleep settings” item. There you have option to set “PC goes to sleep after”.

The Power Option settings allow you to change your laptop’s reaction to closing the lid.Windows 7 offers three lid-closing options: Do Nothing, Hibernate, and Shut Down. You can also choose whether your computer should require you to enter a password when it’s turned back on. (Passwords are always a good idea.).Choose the option you want from the drop-down list. The most popular choice here is Hibernate.
It lets your laptop slumber in a low-power state, letting it wake up quickly so that you can begin working without delay.

Before my HP laptop C-drive failed, the Windows 7/64 Home Premium installed allowed the unit to wake from sleep by raising the lid.the version that the tech installed when the drive was replaced does not appear to have this option, even though it too is a Windows 7/64 Home Premium. Now i have to press the power button and it takes MUCH MUCH longer to wake up. No more instant up like it was before. The prior windows was an HP OEM. The one that was installed post-repair is a Dell OEM.so it is definitely not about the machine. It's something to do with the version of the version (version²) of windows.i am unable to find my recovery disc for this unit, so my old windows and it's instant wake-up option are lost and gone forever.
Unless someone has a better idea?if so, i would LOVE to hear it. Every reminder of what that person did to my notebook (oh, there are so many things!) just galls me. I've spent almost two weeks restoring and updating and installing drivers. And the altered wake function is the first and most frequent reminder. Before coffee even.(And yes, i've learned to be more specific about how i label and store my recovery discs. I've had too many pc's over too many years and got sloppy.
My bad!)Edited by mnashp, 24 May 2014 - 06:45 AM.
